Library

At Belmont North Public School we value Literacy. To support this our library provides our children with a wealth of literature resources.

Each class visits the library for a one hour session each week. During these sessions, the students will be exposed to quality pieces of literature, learn about how a library operates, borrow books, develop research skills and discover how to apply all of this knowledge to their class work.

LIBRARY NEWS

Term One

Welcome to a new year at Belmont North Public School.

Our school library is an important part of our school as we value literacy and its importance to learning. Our school library provides our children with a wealth of rich literature resources to facilitate their quest for knowledge. Our library aim is to enrich students' reading experiences and develop their skills as independent learners.

Library borrowing began this term in Week 3 for all classes. Each class will visit the library for a one hour session each week. During these library lessons, the children will be exposed to quality pieces of literature, learn about the library operation of how to borrow and return books, develop research skills and discover how to apply all this to their class work.

They will support the library by returning and borrowing books, shelving books in their correct location within the library, assisting in the data entry for the Premier's Home Reading Challenge and assisting in developing displays. These children will be acknowledged with an academic award for school service.

LIBRARY OVERVIEW TERM ONE

This year in Term 1 all classes will be learning about library skills, the parts of a book and the skills used by authors to engage the reader. They will be exposed to quality fiction and non-fiction books and learn about different research skills they can use within a library. Each lesson will enable the children the opportunity to use the Smartboard and library tasks will support classroom units of work.

K/1N will be reading books about School Days. They will be using the Smartboard and work in a Term One library booklet.

1/2K will be focusing on an author study. They will be reading books by Anthony Browne and completing literacy worksheets and craft activities for each book.

2/30 will be focusing on Australian Authors to support their HSIE Unit of Australian Identity.

4/5R will be focusing on Australian Authors to support their HSIE Unit of Australian Identity.

5/6W will be reading and completing literacy tasks about "Shatterbelt" by Colin Thiele to support their HSIE unit of Natural Disasters. They will be working on research skills throughout the term.

We look forward to a great term and to HAPPY READING for all.
